Your trekking route in Badrinath takes you to the Valley of Flowers, a vast expanse of land between the Himalayan mountain ranges. This picturesque expanse of 87.50 sq km is enclosed by the gigantic Ghoradhungi Mountain. The beautiful stream of Pushpawati journeys through the valley and meets the Laxman Ganga stream coursing from Hemkund Sahib, at Ghangaria where they form the Laxman Ganga River. This beautiful stretch of land cradled between the mountains was introduced to everybody as the Valley of Flowers by the famous botanist, explorer and mountaineer Frank S. Smith who visited this exotic site for camping.

According to a legend the Valley of Flowers is that location from where Hanuman took away the life-saving Sanjeevani herbs for giving back Lakshman his life. The Valley of Flowers bordered by snowy mountain peaks is covered with multihued flowers belonging to almost 500 species and includes the cobra lily, brahmakamal, cypripedium, blue borage, white androsace, huge purple asters, dwarf irises, purple larkspurs, dwarf larkspurs, dwarf rhododendrons, multicolored primulaes, yellow and blue pansies, red and white the Himalayan edelweiss and the attractive Himalayan blue poppy.
