Gangotri in UP is located in the Garhwal Hills of the state. The location is at such a distance above the sea level that it portrays a picturous look. This place is around 300 kilometer from Dehradun, 250 kilometer from Rishikesh and 105 kilometer from Uttarkashi.
The travelers are advised about they must visit UP’s Gangotri they should visit this sacred place during the period from April to November. During the summer time the place remains cool during the daytime whereas during the nighttime it remains cold. During the time of winter this pilgrimage spot remains filled up with snow.
Gangotri is also called Chardham. This Chardham is referred to as the confluence of four rivers. The names of the rivers are Bhagirathi, Ganga ( whose name was derived from Devaprayag), Alakananda and Gaumukh. Gangotri can be reached in one day’s journey from other places like Rishikesh, Hardwar or Dehradun. The travelers or the pilgrims can reach Gangotri by bus or cars.
To a good number of tourists, Gangotri is the point of origination of Gangotri-Gaumukh- Tapovan and Gangotri-Kedartal trekking routes. Gangotri is also famous for Gangotri Glacier. This glacier is also located in Uttarkashi district of Uttarkhand which has border connections with China. Around the glaciers of the Gangotri group, there are some peaks which are popular to the travelers. The names of the peaks are Shivling, Thalay Sagar, Meru and Bhagirathi 111.
