Dokriani Glacier is a well developed and medium sized glacier of Bhagirathi basin. The local name of Dokriani Glacier is Dokriani Bamak. 'Bamak' is the local name for glacier. Two cirques form this glacier, which are Jaonli peak of 6000 m in height and Draupadi-Ka-Danda of 5600m in height. The length of Dokriani Glacier is 5 km and flows toward northwest originating from 3800 m of elevation. The stream originating from Dokriani Glacier is known as Dingad, which joins other ice melted streams and finally emerges to Bhagirathi river near Bukki village.

The region of Dokriani Glacier is marked by proglacial lakes and meadows, located at a distance of 2 km below the snout of Dokriani Glacier. These meadows along with other formations and lakes depict the behavior and past history of Dokriani Glacier. This region is also a good camping site.
The valley surrounding Dokriani Glacier is a gentle slope with variable land features and snow covered peaks. The tourists can climb up the small peaks and also walk up to the glacier. The best season to visit Dokriani Glacier is in the summer and autumn months. You can also approach Rudugaira, Kedar and Jaonli along with some other glaciers from this same route.
This is an important point of the pilgrimage spot of Gangotri and every year, lots of trekkers as well as Hindu pilgrims visit Dokriani Glacier and its adjoining regions.
The base camp for trekking at this region is at Nainital. The nearest railway station to reach Dokriani Glacier is Rishikesh. Uttarkashi is connected by road from Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, and some other major towns of Uttaranchal. Dokriani Glacier is easily approachable from Uttarkashi.
