Nanda Devi North and Nanda Devi South are the 2 important glaciers of the Nanda Devi Group of glaciers. Both of these glaciers are of nearly 19 kms in length. They are located in the Rishi river Ganga catchment. Nanda Devi glaciers originate from the southern slope of Nanda Devi peak, which is of 7108 m in height.

Other important glaciers in the Nanda Devi vicinity are Ramani, Nandakna, Kurumtoli, Bartoli and Trishul. All these glaciers are both well developed and large in size and also in length. There are some streams originating from these glaciers and also arise from Rishi Ganga river. These streams flows through and ultimately joins Dhauli Ganga at Raini, which is 25 kms from Joshinath.
All these glaciers can be approached from Joshinath on th way towards Malari road. The latest roadhead is Lata, which is about 25 kms from Joshinath. A bridle path follows from Lata through dense forest of Bhoj and pine trees along with ,any other variety of trees and alpine meadows till Lata Kharak. From there, the road goes through Narrow gorges and steep mountains. The road also passes through some snow patches, and ultimately leads to the snout of Nanda Devi glaciers.
Nanda Devi is the second highest mountain in India. It is a part of Garhwal Himalaya, which is located in Uttarakhand state of India, in between Rishiganga valley on the west and Goriganga valley on the eastern side. The meaning of Nanda Devi is 'Bliss Giving Goddess'.
Nanda Devi is among the pilgrimage destinations of Gangotri and so is visited by lots of people every year. So, there are suitable accommodations near Nanda Devi. The nearest airport is at Jollygrant, and the nearest railway station is Rishikesh. This place is well connected to Haridwar, Dehradun, Nainital, Rishikesh and Almora.
