Kedarnath is a famous Hindu holy town. It is mainly a pilgrimage site. Being situated in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, Kedarnath is a big mountain range that stands as one of the twelve 'Jyotirlingas' of Kedarnath. Lord Shiva is generally known as Kedarnath. Kedarnath is basically a nagar panchayat in Rudraprayag district. Nagar panchayat is considered as a special type of urban bodies in India. Kedarnath is placed in the Himalayas and it is placed approximately 3584 meters above from the sea level. Mandakini river flows near the Kedarnath range.

There are five site of Kedar temple and this site is the main one. Other site for the Kedar temples are Kalpeshwar, Tunganath, Madhyamaheshwar and Rudranath.
