Kedarnath

Kedarnath is a famous Hindu holy town. It is mainly a pilgrimage site. Being situated in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, Kedarnath is a big mountain range that stands as one of the twelve 'Jyotirlingas' of Kedarnath. Lord Shiva is generally known as Kedarnath. Kedarnath is basically a nagar panchayat in Rudraprayag district. Nagar panchayat is considered as a special type of urban bodies in India. Kedarnath is placed in the Himalayas and it is placed approximately 3584 meters above from the sea level. Mandakini river flows near the Kedarnath range.

Kedarnath is a most famous Hindu pilgrimage and it is also the place of holiest Hindu temples of the India. Every year, from different destinations of the world, many pilgrims visit this holy place of Kedarnath.

Kedarnath is a great pilgrimage sight that stands in the center of a broad and relatively flat land. The land is bordered by eminent snowy peaks. There is a elegant temple in the Kedarnath area and it is known as Kedarnath temple. The Kedarnath temple was built in the 8th century by Adi Shankaracharya. The temple stands next to the place of a previous temple that was constructed by the Pandavas. Apart from these, the inner walls of the assembly hall are designed with figures of many Hindu deities. The walls of the temple are also designed with many mythological scenes and the outside of the temple door features a big statue of the Nandi Bull.



Nandi is a mythological character. He is considered as a follower of lord Shiva. The statue of the temple stands as a guard of the temple. There are five site of Kedar temple and this site is the main one. Other site for the Kedar temples are Kalpeshwar, Tunganath, Madhyamaheshwar and Rudranath.
