Being a famous Hindu holy town, Kedarnath has its own historical significance in Hindu mythology. Kedarnath is mainly known as a pilgrimage site. It is situated in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Kedarnath is a big mountain range that stands as one of the twelve 'Jyotirlingas' of Kedarnath. While discussing the Hindu mythology and Kedarnath, many aspects of this region will come out.

Kedarnath is the name of lord Shiva. As Kedarnath is a holy pilgrimage site dedicating to lord Shiva, it has several mythological values. Kedarnath is mainly a nagar panchayat in Rudraprayag district. Kedarnath is set in the Himalayan region and it is placed around 3584 meters above from the sea level. Mandakini river flows near the Kedarnath range. With all the beautiful view of the site, Kedarnath is the existing heaven on the earth.

From the beginning, Hindu mythology and Kedarnath has profound relation with each other. Hindu mythology is depicting the customs as well as cultures of Hinduism. Hinduism is basically a religious tradition followed by the Hindus. Basically 'Hindu Dharma' is originated in the Indian subcontinent. Lord Shiva is a remarkable god of Hindu mythology and according to it, Shiva is often called as 'the destroyer'.



There is a famous Kedarnath temple in the Kedarnath pilgrimage site. This Kedarnath temple was constructed in the 8th century by Adi Shankaracharya. Adi Shankaracharya was the most popular ancient Advaita philosopher. According to the mythological perspective, it is known that, Adi Shankaracharya had a profound determination on the development of Hinduism by his non-dualistic philosophical thoughts. The structure of Kedarnath also depicting the mythological scenes as well as events of lord Shiva. The inner and outer wall of the temple shows the curving of lord Shiva and related mythical facts. Kedarnath is also known as one of the twelve 'Jyotirlingas' of Kedarnath.
