Kedarnath India's sacred pilgrimage spot has a lot of excitements to offer to visitors with a nose for adventure. The excursions from Kedarnath offer a respite from the temples and religious shrines of Kedarnath. One such excursion spot includes the Chorabari (Gandhi Sarovar).

Located at a distance of 1.5 km this crystal clear lake of Kedarnath paints a beautiful picture. The ice floating on the surface of this picture perfect lake at Kedarnath creates a spell bounding image. Chorabari (Gandhi Sarovar) was named the Gandhi Sarovar because it is said that the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi has been floated here. This popular tourist destination of Kedarnath has a legend related to it. It is said that Chorabari (Gandhi Sarovar) is the place from where Yudisthira the eldest Pandav departed for his heavenly abode. Mahabharata is a greatest epic ever written. According to this epic the Pandavas fought with their own cousins and relatives in the battle of Kurukshetra. Then in their later lives when they left for their final journey towards heaven en route each brother left from a particular spot.

The eldest and the most honest, Yudisthira was the last one and it is at this crystal lake of Kedarnath that he left for his heavenly abode. Chorabari (Gandhi Sarovar) affords a fantastic view amid the places of worship. The scenic beauty of the place is panoramic. The quiet mountain air blows and whispers tales of the days gone by. The eerie quietness and tranquility of the place makes one feel in tune with nature. The peace that descends on one has a calming effect.
