Hindu Mythology and Yamunotri

The Yamunotri is considered to be one of the most important pilgrimage sites as far as India is concerned and is also regarded to be one of the Char Dhams of Hindu pilgrimage and the other three popular pilgrimage sites of India are the Gangotri, the Badrinath and the Kedarnath. It is also important for you to know that Yamunotri that is situated at an altitude of 3,325 meters above sea level is the source of the Yamuna River.

If you are interested to know about the Hindu Mythology and Yamunotri, then you should be interested to know that according to Hindu mythology, Yamuna is the daughter of the Sun God like Yama, who is known as the son of the Sun God. It is believed that Yama do not hurt any person, who at the time of his/her death opts for a bath in the River Yamuna, who is the sister of Yama. It is also essential to state here that in close proximity to the glaciers of Yamunotri, you would come across hot springs that are referred as ‘kunds’ by the locals and it is required to state here that the Surya Kund is the most important kund as far as Yamunotri is concerned.

The other places to visit at this place are the Divya Shila, which is a rock pillar and this rock pillar is worshipped, before the visitors enter the temple and the Jamuna Kund that is approximately more than hundred year old.

Thus it is said that the Yamunotri Temple along with its surrounding features creates an ambience that makes you feel the presence of a divine being.
