Yamunotri is situated around 234 kilometers north of Haridwar. From this spot the river Yamuna flows from West to East at Yamunotri. It is also the originating point of Hanuman Ganga and the Tons River, which are also the adjoining rivers of Yamuna. Like Gangotri, Yamunotri is also a prominent place of tourist attraction and pilgrimage. Every year there has been good turnaround of tourist and pilgrimage traffic to Yamunotri.

Yamunotri is situated on the western flank of the snow-covered Bandarpoonch Mountain. When Yamunotri is opened for the pilgrimage viewing there has been turnaround of approximately 2000 pilgrims per day.
In Yamunotri, there are various places of stay has been set up to meet the turnaround of so many pilgrims every year. Basically it is a small town of around 100 buildings. There are also dharamshalas to stay at Yamunotri. Still among the places of stay, the best place of stay is at Ramananda Ashram. There is also Nigam Tourist Bungalow, which offers dormitory facilities with tariffs of around Rs 100 per bed. Contrarily the pilgrim or the traveler will get double bed room at any hotel or dharamshala at around Rs 300.
In Yamunotri Uttarkhand, there are towns like Janaki Chatti and Hanuman Chatti. There are also other places of stay in Yamunotri like Nigam Tourist Rest House and Hotel Ganga Yamuna are the prominent among all the rest houses and hotels of this religious city of the country.
