Among the many beautiful places that the state of Uttaranachal boasts of, Jankichatti is a popular one. The place suffers from drawbacks on account of its remoteness as there are almost no good hotels and guest houses. The nearest railway station is a Rishikesh which is almost 220 km from Jankichatti while the nearest airport is at Dehradun, almost 250 km. Parts of this place at an altitude of more than 3100 meters remain snow laden during the winter as the usual temperature goes down to less than 3 degrees Celsius. The forest rest house at Jankichatti is one of the popular staying places here.

The forest rest house provides with the basic facilities for accommodation. While rooms are usually cozy and pleasant, one can have food both at the rest house as well as in the nearby restaurants.
The forest rest house does not have online booking facility and hence, one can only go and make the bookings or get that done through travel agents in Dehradun or New Delhi. Usually one gets accommodation there at most times during the year though the peak season during August to November, finds a good deal of rush for accommodation.
Janakichatti is about 5 km from Yamunotri. The place is renowned for thermal springs where the tourists do have refreshing baths, particularly during the summer. Further, there are quite a number of places like Hanumanchatti, Sayanachatti, Gaumukh and Chamba where trekking expeditions are undertaken from Jankichatti.
